WOODLANDS COMMUNITY BIBLE CHURCH
ARTICLES OF FAITH

 WOODLANDS COMMUNITY BIBLE CHURCH is incorporated as a non-profit, religious organization and exists for the following objectives and purposes:

To glorify God through:

1. Worship of God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24 ; Philippians 3:3 );
2. Teaching the Scriptures systematically and practically (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ; 4:2; Acts 20:20 , 27)
3. Building up one another in love through the proper functioning of each member (Ephesians 4:11-16 );
4. Proclaiming the gospel to the lost, both in our community and to the ends of the earth (Matthew 28:19-20 ; Acts 1:8 );
5. Sending out workers into God's harvest (Matthew 9:37-38 ).

DOCTRINAL STATEMENT

1. THE WORD OF GOD -- THE BIBLE
We believe that the Scriptures are inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings; and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith, doctrine, and life. (Isaiah 43:10 , 44:6, 45:14, 21; Luke 24:27 ; John 5:30 ; Acts 17:2-3 ; 2 Timothy 3:16 ; 2 Peter 1:21

2. THE TRINITY OF THE GODHEAD
We believe that there is one true God and no other exists, has existed, or will exist. We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and that these three are one God having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections, and are worthy of the same homage, confidence, obedience and worship.  Isaiah 43:10 , 44:6, 45:14, 18, 21, Matthew 28:18 ; Mark 12:29 ; John 1:14 ; Acts 5:3-4 .

 3. THE PERSONALITY AND WORK OF SATAN
We believe that Satan is a real and personal being and that, as the "prince of the power of the air," he is now "working in the children of disobedience"; and that, as the "god of this world," he uses demons and men as agents in the execution of his ungodly purposes.  Matthew 4:1-3 ; Isaiah 14:12-27 ; 2 Corinthians 4:4 ; 11:3-4, 13 15; Ephesians 2:2 ; 2 Peter 2:4 ; Revelation 20:10 .

4. THE TOTAL DEPRAVITY OF MAN
We believe that man was originally created in the image and after the likeness of God; that he sinned through disobedience and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. All human beings are born with a sinful nature; and that men express their sinful natures through thoughts, words, and deeds, and are subject to the power of Satan.  Genesis 1:26 ; 2:17; Psalms 51:5; 17:9; Ephesians 2:1-3 ; 1 John 3:8 ; 5:19.

5. THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST
We believe that the humanity of Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, and that He possesses the attributes of true humanity and undiminished deity and fulfills Old Testament prophecies.  Luke 1:30  35; 2:40; John 1:1 , 2, 18; Philippians 2:5-8 ; 1 John 3:5 .

 6. THE BLOOD ATONEMENT OF JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, a substitutionary sacrifice; and that His shed blood is the redemption price for sinful men, the only means of atonement for sin, and is to be appropriated by faith alone.  Leviticus 17:11 ; Romans 5:6-9 ; 2 Corinthians 5:21 ; Galatians 3:13 ; Ephesians 1:7 ; 2:8-9; Titus 3:5 ; Hebrews 9:22 ; 1 Peter 1:18 , 19, 23; 3:18.

7. THE RESURRECTION
We believe in the bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead; and that, because of His resurrection, the saved are to be raised to eternal life and blessedness and the lost are to be raised to judgment and eternal condemnation.  Matthew 28:6 ; John 2:19-22 ; 1 Corinthians 15:4 ; John 5:28-29 .

 8. JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH

We believe that all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord are justified because of His shed blood on Calvary; and that this justification, which is guaranteed by the resurrection of Christ from the dead, is manifested before men by the life and works of believers.  John 3:16-18 ; 5:25; Acts 13:38 ; 16:31; Romans 3:24 ; 4:4-8; 5:9.

 9. THE NEW BIRTH
We believe that because of man's universal depravity and death in sin, no one can enter the Kingdom of God or the true church of Jesus Christ unless he is born again; and that no degree of reformation, however great; no moral attainment, however high; no culture, however attractive; no baptism or other ordinance, however administered; can help the sinner to gain eternal salvation; however, a new life imparted by the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ through the Word of God, is absolutely essential to salvation.  John 3:3-7 ; Romans 3:10 , 23; 2 Corinthians 5:17 ; 2 Timothy 1:9 ; Titus 3:5 ; 1 Peter 1:23 .

 10. THE ASSURANCE OF SALVATION, AND THE KEEPING POWER OF GOD
We believe that God, through His foreknowledge of a believer’s choice for salvation and His foreknowledge of their ultimate perseverance in the faith, has predestined a new life that is eternal for this believer. We also believe that not all who claim the name of Christ are indeed true believers. Concerning the salvation of any believer, we submit to the Sovereignty of God, who alone has written their names in the Book of Life. We also encourage the ongoing responsibility of all believers to persevere in their faith, regardless of trials or suffering, so that they may one day attain the prize of the high calling of Jesus Christ. Our salvation is assured through Christ’s atonement on Calvary and the continuing loving work of the Holy Spirit and not through efforts of human will.  John 5:24 ; 10:28-29; 2 Corinthians 5:1 , 6-10; Philippians 1:6 ; 3:8-12; 1 Peter 1:3-5 ;
Romans 8:1-2 ; Colossians 1:23 ; Hebrews 6:4-6 , 10:26, 29; Revelation 3:5 .

11. THE PERSONALITY AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead; that He convicts the world of sin; and that He regenerates, indwells, seals, enlightens, guides and empowers the believer.  John 3:6 ; 14:16-17; 16:7-15; Acts 1:8 ; Romans 8:9 ; 1 Corinthians 12:13 ; Ephesians 1:13,14 ; 4:30; 5:18.

 12. THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that each believer has sovereignly been given at least one spiritual gift by the Holy Spirit; that no believer is destitute of such a gift; that these gifts are given to believers in order that they might minister to the rest of the body; and that the Church has been given specific gifted believers whose purpose it is to equip the saints for their jobs of ministry and of building up the body of Christ.  Romans 12:6 ; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 ; Ephesians 4:7-12 ; 1 Peter 4:10 .

13. THE CHRISTIAN WALK
We believe that all who are born again by the Holy Spirit are made partakers of the divine nature, and are called with a holy calling to walk, not after the flesh, but after the Spirit; and that they can be victorious over the flesh through the power of the Holy Spirit and thus not manifest the works of the flesh, which would dishonor Christ's name, but manifest the fruit of the Spirit, which would glorify Him.  2 Peter 1:3-4 ; 1 Peter 1:15-16 ; Galatians 5:16-23 ; Romans 6:8 .

14. THE CHURCH
We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ had its historical beginning on the day of Pentecost; and that it is composed of all in this present age of grace who, through faith in the finished work of Christ on Calvary, have been baptized by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ, whether they be Jews or Gentiles; and that, thus being members one with another, they are responsible to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace, rising above all sectarian prejudices and denominational bigotry, fervently loving one another with a pure heart.  Matthew 28:19 ; Luke 22:19-20 ; Acts 10:47 , 48; 16:32, 33; 18:7, 8; Romans 16:25 , 26; 1 Corinthians 11:26; 12:12-24; Ephesians 3:3-6 ; 4:1-3; 1 Peter 1:22 .

 15. HEAVEN AND HELL
We believe that those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, at death immediately pass into Christ's presence, and there remain in conscious bliss until the resurrection of the body at His coming, when the body and soul will be reunited and will be associated with Him forever; and that all who do not believe shall spend all eternity lost in conscious punishment in hell.  Matthew 25:46 ; Luke 16:22-23 ; 1 Corinthians 15:16-23 ; 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 ; Philippians 1:23 ; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 ; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 ; Revelation 20:11-15 .

16. THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
We believe that the personal, imminent, bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ, set before us in the Scriptures, is the blessed hope for which we should be constantly looking; that the world as a whole will not be converted during this dispensation, but is instead fast ripening for judgment and that there will be fearful apostasy in the professing church; that the Lord Jesus Christ will come in Person to rapture the true Church, to restore Israel to her own land, to judge the nations, and to set up His millennial kingdom here on the earth; and that after this kingdom, "according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.”  Deuteronomy 30:1-10 ; Isaiah 11:9 ; Ezekiel 37:21-28 ; Daniel 9:27 ; Zechariah 14:4 ; Matthew 24 ; John 14:1-23 ; Acts 1:10-11 ; 15:16-17;Romans 11:15-17 ; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 ; Philippians 3:20 ; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 ; Titus 2:13 ; 2 Peter 3:13 ; Revelation 3:10 ; 4:1.

 17. MISSIONS AND BENEVOLENCE
We believe that since the Father sent His only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, into this world to die that we might have life; and since the Son sent the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, unto believers to testify of the Son; and since the Lord Jesus says, "as my Father has sent me even so send I you"; that we likewise should go forth at His bidding to carry out His commission to the whole world, carrying the message of good news, the Gospel, by word and deed. We believe that we, as a local church, should by prayer to God, by word of mouth, by our gifts, and by our talents, seek to fulfill His great commission.  Matthew 28:18 , 19; John 20:21 ; Acts 1:8 ; 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 .

 CONCLUSION OF OUR DOCTRINAL STATEMENT
In accepting and subscribing to the above articles of faith, we by no means set aside or undervalue any of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments but believe all Scripture to be God's written Word, given to us through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit; but the knowledge and belief of the truth stated in this doctrinal statement, we deem necessary to sound doctrine and thereby a requisite for sound Christian fellowship.

 ORDINANCES

We believe that there are two church ordinances, communion, and baptism, which are the outward visible signs of inward spiritual reality and were instituted and commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ for the Church.

1. COMMUNION
The Church shall celebrate Communion with the use of bread and the cup, in accordance with the accounts given in the Scriptures. Matthew 26:20-30 ; Mark 14:17-27 ; Luke 22:14-20 , 1 Corinthians 11:1-34 . We believe that the Lord's Supper should be an important part of church life and a priority for every believer. Thus we will seek to observe the supper on a frequent and regular basis.

2. BAPTISM
Baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit shall be administered in this church by immersion to born again believers as a testimony that an inward work of regeneration has taken place.

A. Baptism is an act of OBEDIENCE to the command of Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:18-19 .
B. Baptism is a symbol of IDENTIFICATION with Jesus Christ. Romans 6:4 .
C. Baptism is a public TESTIMONY of faith in Jesus Christ. Matthew 10:32-33 .
D. Baptism does not bring salvation, but follows salvation. Acts 8:12 ; Ephesians 2:8 , 9.
